With a natural eye for design, Angie Adamczyk, creator of the lifestyle/interior design blog houseonprairielane.com and her husband Pete, an electrician by day, recently built a new home for their family of four. Pete is a man of many trades, and drew up the plans for the house, became the general contractor and did the majority of the work himself. After combining Pete’s skills with Angie’s knack for styling, they both knew their floors would be an important feature of their home. We had the chance to talk to Angie in-depth about the build, her style, and why she chose Mannington.

Mannington: How would you define your home style?

Angie Adamczyk: I think it’s a little bit of a Modern Farmhouse Style. I like pieces that are timeless and classic. While I did second guess the “white kitchen” style, I know it’s a design I will always love.

M: Which Mannington floors do you currently have in your home and what made you choose them?

AA: We have the Mannington Hardwood Pacaya Mesquite in the color Sediment and LOVE it! We have two kids and a dog, so I knew that I did not want dark floors which tend to show everything. The color Sediment is perfect, as is the quality of the brand.

M: Did you renovate your current home or was this a new build?

AA: Our home is new construction. It’s designed and built by my husband and me and was definitely a “true labor of love.”

M: Walk us through your design process – what inspired your home design and how did you keep all your design ideas organized?

AA: Walking through model homes, watching HGTV, and browsing Pinterest were our top three inspirations. Ultimately, the design and layout were our own. My husband worked his magic to create exactly what we wanted in a home. I saved a lot of the design details on Pinterest boards, organized by each room.

M: What are the top three things people should look for when shopping for floors?

AA: Quality, durability, and color!

M: Would you recommend Mannington floors to your followers?

AA: Yes – absolutely!

M: What was your favorite part about designing your new home?

AA: I loved picking out all the finished details – things like flooring, hardware, and light fixtures. It can be overwhelming, but I definitely did my research and didn’t rush to make decisions.

M: What’s your favorite room you designed in your new home?

AA: My kitchen! To say I spend a lot of time in this space is an understatement. I LOVE to cook, and as a stay at home mom, I am in the kitchen preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner along with several snacks throughout the day. I knew from the very beginning that I wanted white cabinets with honed marble countertops, and I absolutely love both details. Another favorite feature of mine is how we extended the kitchen cabinets to the ceiling. It was a last-minute decision, but one that I know I will never regret!

M: Any additional tips for people designing a home or remodeling?

AA: Do your research and budget for the things you can splurge on. We chose to spend more of our budget on flooring, cabinetry, and countertops, and we are so happy with the quality of all three.

M: What are your favorite design elements in the house?

AA: It’s really hard to pick just one. For the last two years, we’ve slowly been adding more furniture pieces and each one provides a different tone. I still really love our barstools from West Elm and our sofas from Pottery Barn.
